  • Dog Training (Pepper):

Pepper attended a six week pet management training course where he learned to trust myself and others, to remain calm when confronting new issues. He also follows stop, sit, stay, down, shake, fetch and come commands.

  • Service Dog (Pepper):

As a border collie, Pepper is highly intelligent and has been trained to work with people with diabilities.

  • ESA Emotional Support Animal:

Lynn is considering an ESA Certification for Pepper.

  • Physicial Condition:

He is in very good physical condition and is energetic and athletic. As he is relatively young he does not have any age-related structural or medical issues.

  • Temperament:

Once welcomed, he is friendly with everyone, even strangers and does not become easily agitated or aggressive. He is protective of the home and will bark at exterior movements.

  • Pet Playmates:

Pepper generally plays well with other pets, but due to his high energy levels and herding instincts, he might try to "herd" or "manage" other pets, often through playful nipping or nudging.
He also plays well with people we have introduced him to. He likes playing tug-of-war and catch.

  • When Left Alone:

He typically roams the house and we will block areas we do not want him to enter. We normally give him his favorite snack before leaving. Doing this helps relieve any anxiety that Pepper may have. He respects the the interior of a home or kennel and has never destroyed any property. He will bark at outside events such as noisy cars and delivery trucks, dogs, cats, and people.

  • Diet / Schedule:

Eats primary dried food. We feed him the Gentle Canine Nutrition dog foods, Chicken and Real Beef and Bacon, 3 to 4 cups, daily.
Eats breakfast after going out and dinner around 6:00 pm.

  • Food Safety:

NO, people food is not okay. Please follow the diet / schedule recommendations in the note, above.

  • Potty Habits:

First thing in the morning and last thing at night before bed. Needs to go out every 3 hours or so when he barks at the door.

  • Hangout Habits:

Pepper likes to sit next to you and begs for attention. He will also beg to go out and is obedient and will come when called.
He will also get off of the furniture when told!

  • Furniture:

We are careful not to let him jump up on and down off of furniture. We lift him if he wants to cuddle next to us. We don't allow him on beds.

  • Sleep Routine:

He generally sleeps 8 hours, but is sound sensitive and will bark if he expects an intruder, loud car or motorcycle or another dog barking.
We take him outside to go potty right before he goes "night-night" and when he wakes up in the morning.
Pepper sleeps in a separate room but if he wants to join you in your bedroom, that is okay, what ever works for you.

  • Exercise Routine:

We exercise Pepper twice daily, early morning 30-minute brisk walk and in the evening a walk to nearby Central Bark Dog Park. It has an open field where we play frisbee.

Once a week Pepper does an obstacle course workout at Canine Training Center.

  • Other Notes:

Because Pepper is a highly active dog, be careful when he is around children and the elderly as he will often actively greet them, jump up on them, and attempt to lick them.
